Judith

Judith and her husband work hard to provide for their family of three children.  Judith is a housekeeper, her husband works at a country club during the season and does snow removal in the winter.   Many months their income is barely sufficient to make ends meet for basic needs: rent, food, utilities.  Little cash is left at the end of the month for extras and they do not have any cash savings.  A single unplanned expense would be financially devastating.

Judith explained that she wants what every mom wants for her children - to give them a better life.  She encourages her children to be involved at school.  Judith wants to provide the material things that help reduce the burden and shame of poverty. When she learned that she would be receiving unrestricted cash every month she knew immediately that she would use some of it for her children:

“I spent some of the money on my children.  Now I can pay the fees for them to be in sports and clubs. I can give them a little money to buy extra food at lunch.”

Unrestricted cash transfers alleviate material hardship and have a positive effect on the overall health and well-being of the family.

“The extra money has been much help for my family.  I am more at peace and I feel less stress about my family.”
